The west coast allows for a truly remarkable break, simply incredible food, friendly locals who are a fantastic mixture of c’est la vie and haute bourgeoisie, and of course not forgetting the scalinatella steps which are made for long evening strolls, or passeggiata as it is known to the locals. The views on offer here are dead drop spectacular, creating the perfect backdrop for a romantic getaway. Visitors here can experience the everyday life of small Italian towns and villages, some of which are more touristy, but many which are so laid back that you will feel right at home. Avoid over stretching yourself and allow time to absorb the true beauty of your surroundings, don’t try to fit everything into one visit and leave something to look forward to for your return.

Food

This picturesque setting is made for long lunches with picture-perfect outdoor spaces and eateries that are brought to life with the sounds, smells and tastes of the Mediterranean. Fresh seafood and pizzas hot from the brick-ovens are hard to beat. I would urge all visitors to try the lemon taglionlini, sea urchin spaghetti and seafood crudo at some point during their stay.

Where to go

Travel to the pretty village of Ravello perched in the hills with dramatic sea-level views of the coast.  Positano which is nestled by the sea is a true gem with beautiful majolica-tile benches, lush gardens and stupendous views. It is also home to the chic crowd, some of whom emerge from the privacy of their yachts for an aperitif here. A visit to Vietri sul Mare is also recommended, where most of the region’s famous pottery is produced. You also can’t miss Capri, once there reach the Punta di Tragara, a viewing point poised above the Faraglioni, where the views are breath-taking.
